Tony, Kenny and Martin did this walk on 16/11/03. Travelling South from Glasgow/Lanarkshire, take the M74 and follow the sign for Moffat.Once in Moffat, turn right and follow the A708 for Selkirk. The Grey Mare's Tale is approximately 10 miles along this road. It is clearly signposted at the road's edge. Similarly, from the South travel north on the M74 to the same signposting. We had intended climbing White Coomb, following the route recommended by Cameron McNeish in his book "Scotland's 100 Best Walks". He recommended crossing the Tail Burn well above the falls. However - BE WARNED, this is difficult to do as the rocks in the burn are very slippy and there are few suitable places to cross. As it is, we were unable to do so. Instead, we carried on to where Loch Skeen empties into the Tail Burn. We crossed here and climbed Mid Craig. Returned the way we came, although there is, apparently, a walk around the loch. Height of climb from car park is about 1500 ft (450 meters). Distance is about 2 miles (4 return trip).
